We were srolling Easter Sunday in front of Saint Patricks Cathedral on 5th Avenue. The street was closed off for the Easter Bonnet Parade even with the lousy weather there were some lovely hats and some outlandish hats. The same for some of the people wow! As we strolled, I was impressed by the creativity of this window display. The flowers are made using paper plates, plastic spoons, fabric, styrofoam balls, pearl pins and glitter. Be still my heart how simple items can make such an impressive window display. I am sorry, my picture doesn't do it justice. I decided to give my blog a fresh look for spring and to be honest I am slowly, very slowly learning how to work this blogging stuff. But, I still don't know how to save a button I have tried. I keep seeing this bandwith stealing stuff, but I still haven't figured out how to do save a button or make one.

I bought the baby bobbi bear pattern by blue sky alpacas and their cotton blend yarn in a soft blue. I finished him and named him blue bear and I think I am going to knit him a scarf to keep im warm hee, hee! I enjoyed making him. The bobbi bear pattern and yarn was one of the my fun buy's at purl.

yarn and the big apple

I was able to get to two yarn shops while I was in the Big Apple. I went to School Products and I found some awesome cashmere on sale. I didn't know you could buy yarn by weight. OK, sounds kinda dumb considering when we buy a ball or skein it details the weight and yardage on the label. But here the yarn had been wound into a variety of sizes . So I felt like I was at a fruit stand, I touched, squeezed, felt for density it was kinda cool. Then my yarn was weighed and I paid by the ounce. They even had free patterns with purchase. It was all so soft & yummy and ok I admit it I have become a fiber addict, smile! My choice's of yarn stores were limited, since I am being pushed all through town in my wheelchair by my great kids, I heart them! But, considering all this I scored. I also went to Purl in Soho, Joelle Hoverson author of Last Minute Knitted Gifts is the owner I did not know that needless to say I did imbarrass myself, smile! I bought some great patterns, alpaca yarns, new wool by Rowan, lovely dpns, and two new books. I got a picture inside purl and all I can say is I want a wall of yarn like that when I grow up.

no cast

Well I didn't get my cast my Dr. decided since I was going out of town it would be best not to put a cast on until I get back so I am in a splint til then, ugh! I am going to NYC and Miami I am taking my teens for Spring break. I have a few yarn shops I was thinking of going to School Products on 28th & Broadway, Yarn Co on 82nd and I can't remember the name of the van with the yarn balls on top that pick you up and take you to their store out of the city. I also want to go to Tender Buttons, I went years ago and have always wanted to go back. We will be going to a museum, yet to be decided and from the ambitious plans my kids are aiming for I will sure be impressed if we get to half of their wish list. We will definately do Chinatown, Canal St, Empire State Building, Time Square etc... of course St Patricks Cathedral and The Easter Day Parade "Happy Easter !" I don't know of any yarn shops in Miami area I wish I did. I finished cory today love it, love it, love it! Got to pack and figure out what will easily go over the foot. We are leaving tomorrow. I am wondering how friendly the Big Apple is with a women on crutches.

I am knitting cory from the carefree collection by colinette.It has a flared collar and bottom edge shaping. I am using Isis in venezia and mohair in monet. It is just a beautiful combination. The yarns are in shades of sage, blues, black, lite green, lavender, fushia, yellow, brick . So far this has been a easy knit using three varying sizes of needles. I am hoping to finish this pretty quickly and it will officially be my first sweater.

I am making these sock in a self-striping yarn. I am using schoeller stahl Limbo Mexiko. I liked this yarn for the bright colors that are traditionally know to Mexico but as I am knitting it is starting to remind me of sarapes.

Oh yeah!! My big sister sent me presents in the mail yeepee! I got my very own kitting journal it is a cool log where you can attatch yarn label & photo of completed garment. There is also a fill in for start and comletion dates, size, gauge, needle size's, pattern source and my notes. I also got Yummy Yarns by Kathleen Greco it has great pictures and patterns done up in novelty yarns. I also got Vogue Knitting Winter 04/05
there is a beautiful Shawl Wrap on page 77 I am in love with and it is made with Colinete Yarn one of my favorites. I also love the zip up on page 79 it is in my favorite shade of blue and in my favorite yup! cashmere. My sister even stamped these really cool book/page markers with dress forms and I got a daily words of inspiration book, Sisters. I also got some 3-D stickers and in the bag in the back she decorated it and inside was a beautiful vintage black short kimono hand painted with silver and lavender plumes-feathers and stitched with silver thread it is lovely.

I've fallen and now I can knit! I fell this morning and broke my ankle or aka distal fibula and something about ligaments. I was told this break is gonna take longer than usual to heal. Wow!!! talk about painful, I literally could not breathe, speak, move. I was frozen on the floor I was clammy and felt I was going to pass out. I had to crawl to my room I was shaking so bad. I broke my foot a few years ago it did not hurt this bad. My speechless sweetie took me to the hospital. I had to use childs crutches to get out of the house. My ankle is swollen 4 times its normal size it makes the other one look quite skinny. Like a diet ad before and after. Hee, hee! I think my happy pills are kicking in now weeeeee!
Gotta have my nurse oops! daughter get me some ice its throbbing. So I am in a splint until monday afternoon and then I get my cast. My nurse/fashionista wants me to get a rainbow cast. I would really like a animal print cast. I am hoping to get some knitting done definately nothin' I will have to count or pay to much attention to. I think my bestest gift I recieved from my secret pal is definitly going to come in handy "THE CROCHET HOOK" I may be dropping some stitches hee,hee! I ate all the chocolates darn, darn, darn! I need yarn and chocolate.

Sockapalooza

My sock's are completed and on their way. I hope my pal likes them I am soooo worried I am just a wreck. I started and took apart so many pairs. I am new to knitting and I just hope I made them correctly. This is my third pair of socks ever. I ended up making them out of Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk in light blue. I think they are yummy feeling. I will post a picture later since I forgot to charge the battery for my digital camera. Sockapalooza Pal I hope you like them. I also included the left over yarn. Smile!

Hour Glass Sweater

There was very little progress on my sweater and no blogging this week sorry! These past two weeks have been busy... I was working on a local fundraiser, for my son's high school. I worked on our silent auction. It turned out beautiful, smile! I also attended a guild meeting I belong to we raise money for JDRF (juvenile diabetes research foundation) it is a great group and we have alot of fun while doing it. My girlfriends and I attended a SCL luncheon. We raise funds for the developmentaly disabled. We had David Hasselhof of Baywatch as our guest speaker. My girlfriends and I had a side splitting blast. Yesterday I helped my daughters school.The school is presenting a musical slash play. We are selling drinks and snacks at intermission and and the money raised is for grad night. I helped decorate and watch over the boy's who were helping for community service hours. They were a blast. I tried to make cookies the night before but, after ruining two batches of sugar cookie dough, burning the chocolate chip cookies I burst into tears. My son told me it would probably be a better idea if he went to the market and bought some cookies and we call it a day. I love that boy! Today, I am going to see the musical/play I am excited especially since my daughter worked on costumes, smile!

My secret pal sent me wonderful presents yeepee!!!!!!
I am the luckiest girl ever. I got two skiens of Berroco Optik it is just beautiful. I also recieved some Dove milk chocolates which are my all time favorite chocolates, I am eating them as I write. I also recieved a wooden crochet needle hum... do I drop stitches now and them. Why yes, Mam I sure do!!! How did you know?? I also got a pattern for a drop stitch scarf how cool is that? Way cool I must admit I am gonna start one tonight. I also recieved some cute tea lights with hearts. Thank You! Thank You! Secret Pal you are awesome.

My daughter modeling. I am at a stand still I want to learn how to cable. Everyone keeps telling me it is easy but, yet I look at instructions and I feel like such a dork. I guess it just isn't gonna happen anytime soon. Well I will admit it I frogged the socks. I was getting ready to start the heel and I realized I had a few mistakes and since they are a gift I couldn't go any further. So I am restarting sockapalooza socks. I only got a few more rows going on my hourglass sweater. So far so good I am determined to take my time and make my sweater special. Well, I am so frustrated I see blogs that are so well put together with links to other blogs they read or project and picture links and I don't know how to do any of that. I want my blog to look nice and yet I don't have a clue where to start. I am so clueless!!!!
